Residents living along the road between Gisanze and Kibirizi cells, which passes by local ponds, are calling for the road to be paved and equipped with streetlights to enhance their safety, especially during the evening.
Patrick Rukundo, a resident, told us that the road needs urgent attention, with both paving and streetlights necessary to ensure safety and improve local infrastructure.
“This road should be paved and have streetlights installed because it connects Gisanze and Kibirizi cells and is near Karongi town. Many people use this road. We’ve been promised improvements several times by local authorities, but nothing has been done so far. Paving the road would also allow it to be widened and complete the unfinished bridges. The streetlights would help protect us from thieves who target people in the evenings,” he explained.
Rukundo added, “Many people pass through here, including those from Rutsiro who come to trade livestock. If the road is improved, it would encourage more cars to use it instead of motorcycles, boosting trade. Additionally, our President Paul Kagame promised to build roads with tarmac, and we hope this will be one of them.”
Jean Bernard Nshimiyimana, the acting executive secretary of Rubengera Sector, acknowledged the residents’ concerns and confirmed that plans for the road are in place.
“There is hope for this road to be built. It’s part of our future development plans to improve roads, particularly in Rubengera Sector, including Gisanze and Kibirizi cells,” Nshimiyimana said.
He also addressed the issue of security, stating, “We are reinforcing patrols in collaboration with security forces to deal with the problem of thieves. As for the streetlights, we assure the residents that they will be installed in due time. Their patience will soon be rewarded.”
This road, which is frequented by traders and commuters, is highly anticipated by the community, who have been promised that it will soon be developed into a paved and well-lit route.
