Rubavu: Ambassador Nyamudeza Toured Disaster Recovery Key Sites

Ambassador Nyamudeza visited on this Thursday some areas of Rubavu District heavily impacted by the May 2023 disaster, which caused significant damage to local infrastructure and displaced thousands of residents.

During his visit, Amb. Nyamudeza visited new buildings for affected families in Kabirizi given after some families lost their homes in the disaster. She visited also the Rugerero Evacuation Site, where displaced families initially sought refuge when the disaster struck.

Ambassador Nyamudeza tour involved the retention walls constructed at most affected areas alongside the Sebeya River in Rugerero and Nyundo.She stopped at the Nyundo Bridge, which sustained damage during the disaster but has since undergone repairs.

The May 2023 disaster, caused by torrential rains and flooding of Sebeya River in Rubavu, affected hundreds of homes, destroyed infrastructure, and forced the evacuation of thousands of residents. The district of Rubavu in western Province, was one of the hardest-hit areas, the disaster caused deaths to 130 souls in Rwanda and the government reported 77 people injured in the disaster and 5174 houses destroyed.

It IS a Disaster that occurred in 2023 due to the heavy rain that took the lives of many people in the areas of Rubavu, Nyabihu and Ngororero. Most of the people left their homes and assisted by the government so that their health and their children are taken care of.

Some students dropped out of the school, some families remained, but Rwanda and the Rwandan friends and various non-Government Organization , Religious and Churches helped people in that time which was very had. So far they are fine and safe for every possible way as they usually say. The Sebeya issue have ben resolved and there was built outskirts near Sebeya , which is making people very proud of the country and what they have done for them , and they are doing all the best to keep it safe.
